Cervejaria Hocus Pocus | Moonrock

Moonrock is a 8.4% ABV NE (Double) IPA created to extract the max of the hops' psychedelia, used in three shapes: extract, whole cones and lupulin powder. Each of these elements brings a different dimension of aroma and flavor to the beer: the extract reinforces the aroma in a resinous and concentrated way; the whole cone hops create citric aromas and flavors, reminding orange peel and tropical fruits; and the lupulin powder throws all this freshness to a whole another level, maximizing the aromas in an extremely clean way. The label represents in a faithful way the sensations of whom drinks the first sip of Moonrock. (Source: Loosely translated from the brewery's advertising material.)

  • Beer: Moonrock
  • Style: New England IPA (22A. Double IPA)
  • ABV: 8.4%
  • IBU: N/A
  • Brewery:
  • Look: golden color, turbid, with a great creamy white head formation that leaves marks on the glass;
  • Aroma: there is a strong presence of mango notes, combined with as strong pine notes. Light herbal notes. As the beer heated in the glass, very light alcoholic notes could be perceived;
  • Taste: the flavor is a little different, having more emphasis on the piny notes and a lot less on the yellow fruit, mango notes. Light woody notes are present as well, along with what looks like some smokyness;
  • Mouthfeel: Medium-high body, medium-high carbonation and a dry but long finish;
  • Overall: A good New England IPA, but that it’s eclipsed by other better NE IPAs that are in the market nowadays. Good beer, nevertheless.
