Perro Libre | SMaSH Red IPA

Perro Libre | SMaSH Red IPA

The year: 2016. The project: Crowd Series. The first recipe: SMaSH Red IPA. Can you remember it? Back then, we used a hop that didn't have an official name yet. We continuously were asked to bring back some of the Crowd Series beers back, and this is happening! We have here the new version of the SMaSH Red IPA, with a fruity and citric profile, using a single hop and malt varieties (Single Malt and Single Hop). • Beer: SMaSH Red IPA
  • Style: Red IPA (21B. Specialty IPA: Red IPA)
  • ABV: 6.4%
  • IBU: 55
  • Brewery:
  • Look: amber red color, clear, with a great off-white fluffy head that leaves marks on the glass;
  • Aroma: caramel-like and marmalade-like notes, as well as a light earthiness;
  • Taste: caramel-like and marmalade-like notes, along with earthy hop notes. Light dark fruit notes are present as well. Light citric fruitiness, reminding of orange;
  • Mouthfeel: Medium-high body, medium-high carbonation and a short but persistent finish;
  • Overall: Interesting Red IPA, mainly due to the malt choice, which is the main character on this beer. Good beer, but could use a tad bit more of hops for it to balance the malt.
This beer review was made by somebody which is studying every day to be a better beer drinker but, despite that, isn't a specialist or a beer sommelier. In advance, pardon for any gaffe. If you have any corrections or suggestions, please mail me.
